IFN661 Mobile and Pervasive Systems Assessment 19: Portfolio
Assessment 19: Portfolio (50% – Individual)
Objective
In this assessment, you will demonstrate your understanding about pervasive technologies, sensor networks, and security and privacy issues related to mobile devices and sensor networks. There are 6 tasks for you to complete during weeks 1-6 of the semester. Each activity requires you to research a topic, and develop a description (Maximum two pages per task). Prepare a 3 to 5 minute video of you presenting your findings using the record function in PowerPoint, Prezi or other presentation media that can be uploaded to YouTube. You will submitt your Portfolio as a report on 31 March including the link for your video presentation.

Introduction
Select your problem domain (vertical). Some examples are found in the Week 1 lecture, IoT verticals slide. A brief description of some of these follows:
- Agriculture, areas in which sensor network systems are being commercially explored include: wine grape growing; dairy cattle management; managed micro-climates; market gardens; social
- Mobile health, areas in which sensor network systems are being commercially explored include: Aged Care (e.g. assisted independent living); Chronic disease prevention and management; Acute Care (e.g. women wellness after cancer); and Mental Wellbeing (e.g. mood shifting using music).
- Emergency and disaster management, areas in which sensor network systems are being commercially explored include: 1st Responder Actions (e.g. mobile app to assist CPR); tracking fire/storm systems to inform local community and emergency & disaster management staff; robot-motes for locating
- Environmental monitoring and management, areas in which sensor network systems are being commercially explored include: Coal Seam Gas monitoring; Water table monitoring; Great Barrier Reef
- Defence, areas in which sensor network systems are being commercially developed include: ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance).
Tasks
There are 6 tasks in this assignment, each worth 6 marks for content. These are:
- Problem description
- Sensor description
- Connectivity description
- Fog Computing analysis
- Security, Privacy & Ethics analysis
- Conclusion
The remaining marks (14) are allocated for:
- Video presentation (4)
- Effective written communication and format (10)
TASK 1:PROBLEM DESCRIPTION
For your selected domain
- Describe the specific problem space that interests you (e.g in Agriculture, in the dairy cattle management, key problems are x,y,z. Of these problems, X has the following issues in data collection, data analysis and actions, where the data could be collected using IoT:
- Identify between 3 to 5 stakeholders in that problem Briefly describe each stakeholder group, preferably as a persona.
- Select one of these stakeholders to be your key stakeholder. Elaborate this persona in more detail, clearly identifying the problems that they face which may be solved through
- Identify one of these problems to be your focal Briefly describe this problem domain.
- List the key references used in this task using APA

TASK 2- SENSORS
For your IoT Solution:
- Identify commercially available sensors related to your problem space and assigned stakeholder
- Select the essential sensors (off-the-shelf)
- Using a table, list the components
- Input (what is being sensed?)
- Processing (is there a need to microprocessor to control?)
- Output (what parameters are being transmitted from the sensor)

You are expected to focus on off-the-shelf sensors (i.e. those you can buy and ready to use as-is), but you are encouraged to expand by thinking about designing your own custom sensors using dev-kits like Arduino.

TASK 3- CONNECTIVITY DIAGRAM
- For your list of sensors, identify how each of them can be connected to the cloud (central manager)
- Assess how often do you need to read their data/inputs and write or send a command? How big is the data typically? (power + bandwidth issue) Present this analysis in a
- What’s the advantages over other network technologies?
TASK 4 – FOG COMPUTING ANALYSIS
- Design a sensor network capturing data in related to your problem space, showing transmission from sensor to base station or other fog-domain device, and from the base station to cloud/server environment. Discuss how virtualisations and management of data in motion would help your IoT vertical converts data into information to provide knowledge (that turns to wisdom) for
- Argue for/against the need of services platform functions for managing your IoT vertical – provide concise
TASK 5- SECURITY AND PRIVACY
- Explain what choices are required to provide effective privacy and security to the
- Discuss the security & privacy issues related to this design and problem Discuss the ethical issues for your solution related to this collected data & resulting information
TASK 6: CONCLUSION
- State the value proposition of your solution to your identified problem
- Identify and briefly describe your selected key user and their information needs in that problem domain.
- Explain the benefits of your IoT solution to your selected key
- Identify future developments for the selected IoT, fog device or cloud service that may provide enhanced features for better solution
Ensure that your report looks professional. Ensure that there are no spelling mistakes, and no errors in grammar. Ensure that sentences and paragraphs are properly constructed. Ensure that all references and resources are included in a bibliography that is constructed using APA (see QUT Cite Write). Ensure that pages are numbered (except the title page and table of contents). Ensure that there is a properly constructed table of contents.
