Essay Topic: Critically explain how the successful implementation of Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) can help improve business performance and better manage the conflicting objectives between functions within the business.

You are asked to do the following:

With reference to no more than 10 relevant articles you should demonstrate an in depth understanding of Sales and Operations Planning, with focus on providing a critical evaluation of how S&OP can overcome the conflicting objectives between functions within the business and the benefits that can be realised if this done successfully. You must provide evidence in the form of real company examples and substantiate your arguments using the academic literature. You should offer a brief introduction and a conclusion to your essay. Do not introduce any new information in the conclusion.

Please read and follow the instructions carefully:

• Your essay should be no more than 2,500 words. The word count excludes figures, table of contents and reference list. The word count includes tables;
• Do not include an abstract, executive summary or any appendices;
• Use 11 or 12 point font (Calibri, Arial or Times New Roman are all acceptable), with 1.5 linespacing;
• Use the Harvard Referencing style. Your essay should include relevant literature only.Recommended hand-in on Friday 8th May 2020; before 4pm (BST) via Turnitin only. If your circumstances prevent you from completing the essay by 8th May, you will not be penalised. The absolute deadline for this coursework is 4pm on 20th August, submissions after 4pm on 20th August will receive a 30% penalty. The penalty will only be lifted if Mitigating Circumstances (MC) are submitted (via the appropriate School process) with evidence and only if approved by the School’s MC committee.

  If you submit your essay on or before 8th May you will receive feedback on your performance before 3rd August. However, your mark will not be released until all student essays have been submitted and marked and the class marks as a whole have been moderated by internal and external examiners. Marks will be released following the final Postgraduate Examinations Board in October 2020.

  This coursework accounts for 50% of the final course mark.
