ART 10000 1GJ Assignment The midterm and final exams will assess your knowledge of specific works of art, as well as your
understanding of the larger art historical frameworks discussed in class and/or in the assigned readings.
Both tests will follow the same format:
Section 1 will be comprised of 3-4 short-answer questions. For each question, you will be provided
with an image of an artwork (with identification information) either in your textbook or discussed in
lectures. Each artwork will be accompanied by a writing prompt to which you must respond in
approximately 150-200 words. Outside research is encouraged for context, but your answers must be
comprised principally of information discussed in lectures and class lesson materials. ART 10000 1GJ Assignment
Section 2 will be comprised of 1 compare/contrast short essay. You will be provided with images of
2 artworks (with identification information) either in your textbook or discussed in lectures. You will
be asked to write a 400-500 word compare/contrast essay, in which you must unpack the formal and
socio-historical connections and departures between the two works—not just describe the visual
similarities and differences. Outside research is encouraged for context, but your answer must be
comprised principally of information discussed in lectures and class lesson materials.
Exams will be “open-book,” so feel free to consult your textbook, class materials and notes, and/or other
informational resources as you write your responses. Keep in mind, again, that your answer must be
comprised principally of information discussed in lectures and class lesson materials.
You are not required to provide bibliographic citations, but please remember that all responses must be
written entirely in your own words. The copy-and-pasting of any direct quotes (with attribution) will
result in point deduction, while plagiarism (without attribution) will result in automatic failure of the
course and will be escalated per the CCNY Statement on Academic Integrity. ART 10000 1GJ Assignment
