COUNTER TERRORISM ESSAY
Terrorism is an infringement to human rights and democracy, it involves the use of
unlawful violence or threats so as to instill fear upon the recipients. It targets governments or
society in a bid to achieve plans that are generally ideological, religious or political in nature
(Preventing Terrorism and countering Violent Extremism and Radicalization that Lead to
Terrorism.) . The United States has put forth measures that will portray terrorism as heinous and
an offence towards all humanity. It is of paramount importance that the United States
government analyzes how terrorists select their targets. This may lead us into understanding how
we might become unfortunate victims of terrorism acts. To attack, a terrorist carefully perceives
the victim, knows his locations, for instance, certain hotels or night clubs and analyze his
associations, say by targeting individuals seen to be important or high-ranking. He then identifies
a “Soft Target” that involves minimal damages to his end but instills maximum damage towards
the victim (Antiterrorism Personal Protective Measures, 2014) .
