Your essay will be based on at least THREE of the following twelve sources; you must
choose one from each of the three groups, labeled Group A, Group B, and Group C. You may
analyze more than one source from any of the groups if you wish, but that would be in
addition the requirement of choosing one from each of the groups.
Before you do any writing for this essay, consider all the primary sources carefully.
Evaluate each one, thinking about who created the source, when, why, and for what
audience. Think about the argument the source itself is making, and put the source in its
own specific historical context. History 1400 Final Essay
When you’ve thought about how the sources can provide evidence about the past, consider
how you might construct a historical argument using one source from each of the three
groups. You need to think about both change and consistencies, as well as differences and
similarities, across both time and location, from the 16th century to the 20th century. Be
sure your argument brings all sources you choose together, but also stays connected to the
specific historical contexts of the evidence. Make sure to support your argument with
detailed evidence drawn from your close analysis of the three sources. While it is essential
to use the historical contexts we have been studying, your analysis of the primary sources
themselves should be the primary focus of your essay. History 1400 Final Essay
