Intercultural Communication essay
Becky Engle had been home in Colorado for 2 months, and she often found herself thinking of her time in China and wishing she were there. This confused her, as when she was there she had longed to be at home. She had despised the hot sticky weather in China and dreamed of the snows of the Rockies. The foods that the Chinese ate she thought strange and not tasty. She had often yearned for the fresh vegetables and salads of her native home in Boulder. There were countless things she had perpetually gone over that had annoyed her in China—the air, the transportation system, housing, and more. Now she was home, but the things she had missed about home while in China did not seem so important. What was more, she felt odd and out of place somehow and longed for the things that had been familiar to her during her 3 years in China.
How could you help explain to Becky what was going on? Focus on her current feelings and take into account as much information as possible.
