Living in a Selfish World Essay Group identity is defined as the distinctive characteristics shared by all members of a
particular social category or group (dictionary.com). The group identity of not only many
Americans, but many privelideged people in general towards those without the same
opportunities is very selfish and unconcerned. This is primarily because we have a strong sense
of entitlement towards our lifestyles, and so long as we are able to continue living our prosperous
lives, nothing else matters. Living in a Selfish World Essay What many people fail to realize is that often times what they take for
granted, others have had to suffer for. Even the ones who are well aware of this purposely
overlook it, simply because they are on the benefitting side of things. The harsh reality is that
society has functioned like this for a long time, and will continue to function like this until
something is done to stop it. Human beings around the world will continue to suffer and
have their rights violated for our happiness; so long as the privileged continue to conform
to what they see happening around them, instead of protesting what is right and wrong.
