The purpose of this study is to investigate how positive diary in sport will have an impact in whatever physically exercise an individual is doing in their sporting career. Sport psychology has a big impact when it comes to your overall performance or enjoyment for any type of sport an individual is doing (Browney&Mahoney,1984). Participating in sport will have psychological benefits in physical activity at any skill level (Folkins & Sine 1981. Son stroem 1982). Also participating in sport can have a negative impact mentally due to many factors that are involved while doing sport. The ﬁeld of sport psychology has focused on understanding the characteristics needed for optimal performance in sport, as well as enhancement of athlete mental health and well-being (Aoyagi, Portenga, Poczwardowski, Cohen, & Statler, 2012).
The participants in this study will be athletes from the University of east London that plays for the uni team, Not really need to target athlete’s that are doing a specific sport. Many of the athletes should have positive experiences that they had to go through in sport to be able to understand the reasons why they went through the success in their sporting career. The main importance of this group is that the students that play for the university team are training on a regular basis and are playing regularly games every Wednesday.
At least 10 participants a mixture of females and males that plays for the university will be involved. Participants that will take part in this project will have to complete a signed consent form to agree their involvement and understanding of the investigation. Everything including the ethics will be explained to the participants also their rights to terminate their involvement at any time and that their identity and answers are fully confidential and won’t be disclosed. Pre test measures going to be collected which is going to be a questionnaire before starting the 4 weeks gratitude intervention programme and a post match will be collected after completing the programme to spot any differences. The questionnaire is going to be about gratitude and positive and negative affect scale. Every participants will receive journal package along with specific condition instructions. Participants going to be ask to think about items, people or events for which you are particularly grateful and trying to experience and maintain the sincere heart-felt feelings of gratitude associated with that thought. The duration for this project is 4 weeks were the participants at least should spend 5min so twice a week so a total of 8 days in the in 4 weeks. This form of reflection can be performed any day and time that is convenient for the participant as long as the period between of each reflection is at least 2 . When the participants experience a memorable sporting or grateful experience they ask to let the project leader know about their mood in the last couple of days . This programme significantly increases self-esteem and life satisfaction.
Traditionally, ath- letes use a diary method supplementary to those used to record negative thoughts, where they are encour- aged to construct positive self-dialog statements to replace each negative thought experienced. Therefore, the full process of positive thought con- trol requires athletes to first identify any negative thoughts experienced, block the thought using a thought-stopping trigger word, and then finally replace the negative thought with a positive thought to create a positive cognitive orientation.
