Type of Quantitative Approach & Analytic Procedure While Researching Pregnant Women in Prison
The focus for this research paper involves proving why laws should be put in place, across all 50 states, to require that all imprisoned pregnancies receive adequate health care, that shackling is banned while pregnant during the last trimester and delivery, and that all mothers get to keep their babies in prison with them if their offense is minor. Because this research paper touches on various topics (specifically the availability of proper health care for pregnant prisoners, the negative effects of shackling during labor and delivery, and the benefits of keeping a baby in prison with their mother), then it is best to choose a descriptive quantitative design. The descriptive quantitative design is the best approach for this research for just a few reasons. For one, it is best for providing facts accurately and systematically; it involves gathering as much information together. In order for this research paper to have depth, it will consist of not just written facts, but also data and graph tables to thoroughly paint the picture of the findings, keeping in mind that descriptive quantitative approach requires thorough facts. The annotated bibliography reflects the thorough gathering of facts that will be used thorough this project. The annotated bibliography also reflects how the sources could be used compare to get a result, which is another reason why descriptive design works best. Also, according to acasestudy.com, a method for this research design is survey questions. The researcher as intentions on generating research questions for participants to answer so that the researcher is able to input his own findings. The researcher will also be careful to keep this research fact-driven to eliminate his own suggestions but will instead drawl conclusions that come from scientific background rather. Conclusions drawn from facts and information will require literary reviews which explains the researcher’s plan when it comes to his analytic procedure.
Thorough literary reviews are expected throughout this research paper as a method for analytic procedure to be used. It is through literary reviews of case studies, peer reviews, magazine articles, and blogs that the researcher will be able present extensively alarming facts. For example, the researcher intends to analyze the poor-quality healthcare, or quality care in general, offered by reviewing how research in a study examined the quality of the care for pregnant woman. In one source, an inmate mentioned how the food served to her was not healthy at all. The literary review will analyze how babies are being punished too. Another example, the researcher intends to analyze shackling pregnant women in their third trimester by reviewing how facilities are persistent in this practice even though there are laws in place that are against it. Both of these examples of background information is proof that a literary analysis is best.
Both descriptive quantitative research and literary review/analysis is what will support the research in this project. The research believes that descriptive research is the best because it relies heavily on facts and just the facts. Thorough literary analysis of all of the sources for this research paper is what will support the type of quantitative research method selected. Pregnant Women in Prison Research Paper
