With this you will provide me with a short description of your proposed topic related to International Transportation Planning. You are free to do your final paper on any topic you like, as long as it relates in some way to specific aspects of international transportation planning. I strongly urge you to pick a topic that really interests you personally or professionally: is there an area where you would like to gain greater expertise, either for a future job pathway or for a Bachelor or Masters Thesis? Are there areas topics or questions you are not sure if they have practical purposes for you but they really interest you intrinsically? Pick something that really captivates you or which you really want to gain some expertise on. URP 5355 International Transportation Planning Assignment
Final Paper Topic Short Description
Note: please upload your short description as a single document via the Turnitin link that will be posted on Blackboard under Assignments/Final Paper. I will then read these over Spring Break and send you a grade and my comments/feedback on your topic – you will be graded 5% of your total grade.
Your research paper prospectus should be structured as follows:
to be finalized (i.e. you can change it later). However, this is important: a research topic is not the same as a research question! Encyclopedia entries provide an overview of a research topic; but academic or scientific research papers answer specific research questions. Trying to write a paper without clarifying your central research questions is like trying to take a hike in a national forest without a destination or a map: you can easily get lost or overwhelmed! So make sure that you attempt to express (as best you can at this early stage) what the central research questions are that you will be trying to address. These can be quite broad if you like! For example: what are the different methods that transportation planners have for traffic demand management in developing countries? Or what are the range of Public-Private Partnership models that are used in current transportation project financing? These are just examples, but you can formulate a broad question if you wish. 3. A list of at least 5 citations of literature sources that you have consulted to create this proposal.
Please provide (on page 2 if you prefer) a list of at least 5 literature sources that you have looked at in a preliminary way to help inform you of the focus and direction of your research topic and research question(s). These can be peer-reviewed papers, reports (from government agencies, or transportation research institutes or consulting firms), or media articles.
