The emergence of conflicts among nurses when discharging duties negatively affects the health facility and clients who are the patients. The different roles exhibited by nurses such as educating and taking care of patients especially upon those giving birth when conflicts arise adversely affect the normal operations of hospitals thereby derailing discharge of services to patients. However, the dynamic of workplace conflict shapes and determines the relationship with clients and the perception they obtain from the depicted attitude of workers (Catalano, 2015). Continuous occurrence of violence in workplace ridicules the level of education and professionalism portrayed by nurses in the hospital which have implications for patient’s delivery of services. The essay examines how nurse’s roles in health care facilities and the emergence of conflicts affect clients and the perception they obtain from such situations in service delivery.
The occurrence of interpersonal conflict among nurses in hospitals results to divided attention in the roles causing danger to patients that require urgent attention to save life. Such scenarios negatively impact the nurses and the hospital in general from patients who opt to seek treatment from alternative health facilities hence losing clients (Catalano, 2015). However, competitive arising of conflicts among health workers based on professionalism positively impacts the quality of health service delivered to patients since each nurse strives to portray perfect skills thus resulting to clients referring other patients to the specific hospital. Attribution of such factors arises when nurses compete professionally to acquire incentives such as promotions and obtain recognition from their supervisors thereby causing interpersonal conflict in determining the best health worker which positively impacts the patients. Consequently, violence occurs among nurses were assigned work in groups though attempting to achieve a common goal but everyone desires to accomplish the task hence affecting timely treatment of patients.
Besides, continuous conflict in roles during discharging of duties by nurses may culminate in physical fight thereby causing increased hatred among nurses and derailing patient’s attention. Such factors depict violation of working environment and poor management of health services which may result in the untimely death of sick patients that requires urgent attention hence portraying the image of the hospital negatively (Lancman, Mângia, & Muramoto 2013). When new working conditions are introduced in hospitals, the possibility of the emergence of violence is high in the workplace since nurses are at risk of aggressively expressing themselves hence negatively impacting patients who require passionate treatment and advice on their health condition. In addition, when health workers are exposed to abuse by their supervisors such as discrimination it precipitates to the occurrence of violence which creates a poor working relationship in hospitals that derail effective attendance of patients concerns. Physical intimidation and verbal abuse create tensions in work environment which affects the normal operations and working structure of office thus instilling fear in patient’s quality of treatment and service delivery.
In solving workplace conflicts strategies such as identifying and solving are the best to apply, those in authority have the mandate to arbitrate the matter by identifying it and engaging the two parties involved. (Gilin Oore, Leiter & LeBlanc, 2015) Another strategy highlighted by Gilllin et.al (2015) is imposing, management can be forced to impose a solution in the scenario that aggrieved parties cannot solve a conflict amicably. A solution is suggested by those in management and imposed to restore peace in a workplace. The final strategy would be ignoring and this is common with conflicts that are beneficial to the workplace. Conflicts that lead to healthy competition in a workplace benefit the patients as well as the health institution, the best strategy would be to ignore such, hence motivating the employees.
Conclusively, when health workers such as nurses engage in a physical and verbal confrontation in the presence of patients, the scenario affects the client’s perception on hospital management thereby fearing the escalation of violence to their health condition. Moreover, an emanation of violence at workplaces derails patient’s attention especially for emergency services which if not timely solved may precipitate to the untimely death of patients. Furthermore, lack of patient’s satisfaction from the nurse’s attitudes may result in few clients acquiring health services in such hospital thus causing a reduction in generation of revenue in such health facility. Therefore, integrative mechanisms of solving disputes would be beneficial for hospital management and structure to enhance quality discipline and quality delivery of service to patients.
